Tight, balanced, wide — each one explained rather than merely labelled.
An empty range field with two price boxes is where most people quietly abandon providing liquidity. They know roughly what they want and have no idea what number expresses it, and the interface offers no opinion. Named presets remove the blank page, which is why every competitor has them.
A preset with nothing behind the name only moves the guess somewhere else, though. Choosing between three words is not more informed than choosing between two numbers unless the words carry consequences. Each one is wired to the same trade-off arithmetic as the home page — moved into a single module so the two can never drift apart — and states plainly what is being accepted: how many price steps it covers, roughly what share of each swap's fees the position takes while in range, and roughly how often it should be expected to be earning at all.
The widths themselves are not fixed percentages. They are derived from the pool's own step size, sub-linearly, so the same word means something comparable in a stablecoin pool and in a memecoin pool: Tight is around a third of a percent in one and around twenty percent in the other. A fixed percentage would have made the same name mean eight hundred steps in one pool and four in another.
Setting a range by market value rather than by price is here too. For a token priced in the eighth decimal place, a price range is a string of zeros that means nothing to anybody, while a range expressed in market value is immediately legible. It is a presentation layer over the same boundaries and changes nothing underneath — the same range entered either way snaps to the same steps. Where the supply behind that number is not known, the switch is not offered rather than shown with a figure that cannot be computed.
The intent throughout is to make the interface offer an opinion while remaining honest that it is one. A default that hides its reasoning is how people end up in positions they cannot explain.
The same preset was opened on a pool that moves 0.01% per step and on one that moves 0.6% per step: Tight came out at ±0.33% and ±8.1% respectively, which is the entire point of deriving it from the pool rather than fixing it. A range typed as a market value was then checked against the same range typed as a price, and both produced identical step boundaries.
